American authorities confirmed that the US carried out new military strikes in Iran during the night of Wednesday (27).
According to an official interviewed by Reuters on condition of anonymity, the targets included an Iranian military installation considered a threat to American forces and commercial maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
The official also stated that American military personnel intercepted and shot down Iranian drones that also posed a risk to navigation in the region.

According to the Iranian press, air defense systems were briefly activated.
Local authorities said the causes of the explosions were still being investigated.
Later in the evening, Iranian state media reported that four vessels that attempted to cross Hormuz without coordination with Iranian security forces were warned and forced to return after warning shots.

The semi-official Tasnim news agency said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fired on an "American oil tanker", forcing the vessel to retreat.
Also according to the agency, the United States responded with fire on a deserted area near Bandar Abbas.
An American official previously told CNN that American forces struck an Iranian drone control station in Bandar Abbas and shot down four Iranian drones that posed a threat to troops and maritime traffic in the region.
The IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard of Iran) claimed to have launched an attack against an American air base, which, according to them, was the origin of United States attacks against Iranian targets, in the early hours of Thursday, Iranian state media reported.
The IRGC did not specify which air base was targeted in the attack. The USA has air bases in several countries in the Middle East region.
On Monday (25), the US had already carried out what it classified as "defensive strikes" against Iranian vessels and missile launch sites near the strait.
Pressure on Trump
Earlier on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump had stated that he was not concerned about the political impacts of a prolonged conflict with Iran and minimized the pressure caused by the mid-term legislative elections, scheduled for November.
During a cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump said the Iranian leadership believed they could pressure him politically by prolonging negotiations and the conflict in the Middle East.
"They thought they were going to beat me out of tiredness. 'We're going to tire him out. He has the midterm elections'. I don't care about the midterm elections," declared the American president.
The speeches took place amid progress in negotiations mediated by Pakistan to try to transform the current ceasefire between the US and Iran into a broader peace agreement. Despite signs of rapprochement, the two sides have not yet reached a definitive understanding.
Trump has been facing increasing pressure within the Republican Party itself because of the duration of the conflict and the economic impact of the war, mainly on gasoline prices in the United States.
At the beginning of the war, the president had stated that the conflict would last between four and six weeks. At other times, Trump even suggested that the war, which began at the end of February, could end in a few days.
In addition to the war, Republican lawmakers have also criticized the president's recent focus on construction projects in the US capital, including renovations to the White House and plans for new monuments in Washington.
