Survivors who were trapped in a cave in Laos send messages to their families
The five survivors found by divers in a flooded cave in Laos sent messages to their families in a video released by Seascoutdiving, the Thai diving organization involved in the rescues.
Still inside the cave, the survivors directed their messages mainly to their mothers. They entered the cave to look for gold and have been trapped there since May 20, when the entrance was suddenly flooded by heavy rain.
"There's no need to worry, mom. Now the rescue team has arrived and now we're safe," said one of them.
Another reinforced that he is fine and will soon be home again. "I'm still strong and well, I'll come out to see you in a little while," said another.
"Mother, wife, children, you don't need to worry about me, stay firm and strong", asked another survivor.
Before the video ends, one of the divers informs the five survivors that he is going to start pumping water out of the cave and taking food. The rescuer asks them to rest as they will soon have to crawl out of there.

The moment of the encounter
On Wednesday (27), divers found the five survivors and recorded the moment.
"We found five Laotians. They are all safe. We will continue to provide help," said Thai rescue diver Norrased Palasing.
Finnish diver Mikko Paasi, who is also taking part in the operation, said he and Norrased needed to "dive back immediately" and get more supplies to the men so they could regain their strength and prepare to leave the cave.

"We still have the task of getting them out of there ahead of us, and it won't be easy," Paasi wrote on social media.
According to state media outlet Lao Security News, rescuers will bring food and medicine to the five survivors and will continue searching for the other two missing.
The place where the five were found is about 300 meters from the exit of the cave, it reported.
Norrased and Paasi, who arrived at the cave in Laos on Monday, also participated of the dramatic rescue operation in 2018 of a youth football team that was trapped in a flooded cave in neighboring Thailand.
Narrow tunnels and difficult access: what the cave is like
The cave is in a remote area of the city of Long Gian, in Xaysomboun province, and extends deep underground.

The interior of the cave is part of a system used for mining and ore transport, with narrow tunnels, flooded sections and tight passages. In some points, the space is so narrow that it is only possible to move around by crawling.
The Thailand Rescue Diver group, from Thailand, which is assisting in the search, released images of the operation inside the cave. The records show an extremely hostile environment: narrow corridors, high water levels, limited visibility and points where access is only possible with cave diving techniques.
