And former US First Lady, Jill Biden, said in an interview that she thought that her husband, Joe Biden, was suffering a stroke during the debate against Trump that buried his candidacy for re-election, in June 2024.
"I was scared, because I had never seen Joe like that, neither before nor since," Jill told the American website CBS News. "I don't know what happened. As I watched, I thought, 'Oh my God, he's having a stroke'. And that scared me so much."
The debate took place on June 27, 2027, and his performance against Trump raised doubts related to his age - he was already 81 years old - and cognitive fitness for a second term.
During the dispute, Biden had a hoarse voice - attributed to a cold -, little enthusiasm and hesitated at several moments. Trump, on the other hand, spewed a series of lies calmly and assertively, without being corrected by Biden.

After the event, voices from the Democratic Party itself began to defend, behind the scenes, the change of the running mate for the contest that would take place in November and would be won by Trump.
For weeks, Biden resisted the pressure in various ways. He gave interviews, met with Democratic governors and denied claims that he was suffering cognitive and physical decline. Biden stated several times that he would not give up and that he would win the election.
However, at the end of July, rumors of withdrawal increased. Former President Barack Obama and former House leader Nancy Pelosi, two strong voices in the party, demonstrated insecurity with the current president.
On July 21 of that year, Biden finally gave in and announced his withdrawal from the candidacy, at the same time that he defended that Kamala Harris, who until now was running again for vice president, would take over his post. The party made Harris' candidacy official the following month.
