The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a consular alert this Wednesday (27) in which it recommended that Brazilians avoid traveling to Bolivia amid the crisis affecting the country.
In recent weeks, roads have been blocked in several regions of the country by protesters demanding changes in agrarian policy and improvements in the quality of fuel, in addition to the resignation of President Rodrigo Paz. The local police have reacted with bombs and gas to the demonstrations.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not recommends travel to the departments of La Paz, Oruro and Potosí, in Bolivia, due to the roadblocks registered in different regions of these locations", informed the Itamaraty.
"The closures have caused significant interruptions in road circulation, affecting access to destinations such as Salar de Uyuni and Copacabana, in addition to making travel to the La Paz region, and from there, difficult, sometimes only by air", added the government. Brazilian.
Also according to Itamaraty, the situation in Bolivia is "dynamic" and "it is not possible to exclude that the blockades will extend to other regions".
Last Monday (25), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) spoke by telephone with Rodrigo Paz and, at the request of the center-rightist, ordered the sending of humanitarian aid to Bolivia, which is facing a political-economic crisis.
According to Lula's aides who accompanied During the call, Paz made three requests to the PT member:
loan of a plane to transport food from one region to another within Bolivia;
sending non-perishable food;
a public note from Lula about the conversation with Paz, as a "gesture" to encourage dialogue in the neighboring country. the Planalto Palace after the phone call.
Guidelines for Brazilians in Bolivia
Government estimates indicate that approximately 75 thousand Brazilians live in Bolivia.
In the consular alert issued this Wednesday, Itamaraty made a series of recommendations to these Brazilians, including:
avoid non-essential road trips, especially in the affected regions;
maintain contact with family members and inform their location regularly;
not accept help from strangers, due to the risk of scams, robberies and robberies;
strictly follow the guidelines of local authorities.
This Friday, protests ended in clashes in La Paz.
