Following the tradition of the great Italian brands, Ferrari went to "ask for blessing" for its latest product, the Luce. The brand's executives presented the 100% electric model to Pope Leo XIV, in Castel Gandolfo, which drew attention not only for its symbolism, but also for the delicate context surrounding the launch.

The delegation was led by President John Elkann and CEO Benedetto Vigna, accompanied by engineers and executives from the Italian manufacturer. During the meeting, Elkann presented the Ferrari Luce steering wheel to the Pope as an official tribute from the company. The executive defined the meeting as a moment "of great human and symbolic value" for the company.

The visit takes place shortly after the global presentation of the Ferrari Luce, a model that opened a new phase in the manufacturer's strategy by entering the high-performance electric vehicle segment. Despite the technological importance of the project, the initial reception from the market and some of the brand's fans was marked by criticism of the car's design and concept.

Ferrari's shares fell by more than 8% on the Milan stock exchange after the model was revealed. Analysts pointed out investors' concerns about the brand's expansion into electric vehicles and the possible mischaracterization of Ferrari's traditional identity, historically associated with naturally aspirated V8 and V12 engines and the characteristic sound of combustion engines.

On social media, the Ferrari Luce also became the target of negative comments. The four-door, five-seater format divided opinions among enthusiasts, especially as it represents a proposal far from the Italian manufacturer's traditional sports cars. Even Italian political figures commented on the matter, questioning whether the new model preserves the DNA of the brand created by Enzo Ferrari.

During the visit to the Vatican, members of Ferrari explained details of the project to the Pope. In one of the excerpts released from the meeting, engineers presented the "e-Manettino" system, an electronic selector inspired by the controls used in the Italian team's Formula 1 cars. The system changes power, energy regeneration and aerodynamic efficiency parameters depending on the chosen driving mode.

The Ferrari Luce uses an unprecedented platform, developed exclusively for electric vehicles. The model has four independent electric motors - one on each wheel - and a maximum combined power of 1,050 hp. According to data released by the manufacturer, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and can exceed a maximum speed of 310 km/h.

The mechanical set operates with an 800 volt electrical architecture and uses a 122 kWh battery produced in Maranello. The estimated autonomy exceeds 530 kilometers in the WLTP cycle, while the fast charging system supports up to 350 kW.

In addition to performance, Ferrari is investing in new solutions to differentiate the Ferrari Luce from other luxury electric vehicles. The model features active suspension derived from the F80 hypercar, independent rear steering and individual electronic management for each wheel. According to the company, the objective was to preserve dynamic characteristics associated with the brand's sports cars even without the use of combustion engines.

The cabin also marks a break with previous models. The interior uses OLED screens developed by Samsung Display, digital controls integrated with physical buttons and a key with "E Ink" technology, an unprecedented solution in the automotive sector. The design project was participated by the LoveFrom collective, led by Jony Ive, former head of design at Apple.
