Marco Buzzi, minister removed from the STJ (Superior Court of Justice) for being investigated in relation to allegations of sexual harassment, had his funding suspended by court decision.

With the decision, Buzzi started receiving R$35,100 in May. With the penduricalhos, he received more than R$ 100 thousand monthly, according to the STJ Transparency Portal.

In addition to his gross salary of R$44,000, Buzzi receives another R$16,400 registered on his paycheck as "personal benefits", not counting discounts.

Without considering social security discounts, income tax and withholding related to the constitutional ceiling, the gross amount received by the magistrate in May reached R$61,100. In April, before the reduction in penduricalhos, the amount had been almost R$127 thousand, while in March it reached R$132 thousand.

In March, the STF established criteria for payment of penduricalhos. The compensation funds may add up to a maximum of 35% of the allowance for Court ministers, currently set at R$46,366.19, which represents up to R$16,228.16 in additional payments.

The measure will be valid until Congress issues a general rule on compensation funds. According to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, the model could result in savings of R$7.3 billion per year.

To CNN, the STJ stated that "the salaries of all STJ magistrates - including additional ones - are being paid in accordance with the decision handed down by the Federal Supreme Court in the joint judgment of RCL no. 88,319, ADIs no. 6,606, 6,601 and 6,604, and REs no. 2026, in accordance with Joint Resolution CNJ/CNMP n. 14/2026 and also with the jurisprudence of the National Council of Justice."

Removal from office
Buzzi has been removed from office since February 10th. He was accused of sexual harassment against a 19-year-old girl, the daughter of a couple of friends, while on vacation at Balneário Camboriú beach, on the coast of Santa Catarina.

In April, following the conclusions of the investigation, the STJ plenary unanimously decided to initiate administrative disciplinary proceedings against the minister.

The Court also decided to maintain Buzzi's precautionary removal until the conclusion of the administrative disciplinary process. The magistrate had already been away from his duties since February this year.

The STJ's deliberation took place after minister Kassio Nunes Marques, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), denied a defense request to suspend the inquiry that supported the case.

Buzzi's defense claimed that testimonial evidence shared in the procedure would be illegal because it was produced without the participation of the defendant's lawyers. It also asked for the investigation to be halted until the Supreme Court analyzed it.
