See what the PF investigates in the relationship between Castro and Vorcaro

The former governor of Rio de Janeiro Cláudio Castro (PL) and the owner of the extinct Banco Master, Daniel Vorcaro, maintained, according to an investigation by the PF (Federal Police), a close personal bond, which made it possible to invest around R$3 billion from a state pension fund, RioPrevidência, in Master's investment funds.

The PF investigation, made public with the launch of the eighth phase of the Compliance Zero operation, on Tuesday (26), points out that the relationship between the former governor and the former banker was "characterized by frequent meetings, including in private environments and abroad, paid for by the banker, with a high temporal coincidence in relation to the billion-dollar contributions from RioPrevidência".

The operation investigating crimes related to Master's fraud carried out ten search and seizure warrants targeting Castro and seven other targets.

Castro's appointments facilitated the scheme
According to the investigation, the alleged proximity of the targets made it possible to appoint managers who facilitated the investments.

"This relationship would have enabled the necessary political alignment for the release of investments, as well as the strategic appointment of RioPrevidência directors in key positions [...], ensuring that decisions on accreditation and application of social security resources were conducted in non-compliance with the investment policy and regulatory standards, but in line with the interests of Banco Master", points out the document that authorized the operation, authored by the minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) André Mendonça.

The action against Castro is also justified in the opinion due to the "continuity of applications even in the face of formal warnings from control bodies and unfavorable technical opinions".
