Son says he's not worried about the goal drought: "I'm saving it for the World Cup"

South Korea captain Son Heung-min said he is not worried about the lack of goals in the current MLS (Major League Soccer) season and said he believes he will score goals in the World Cup if he stays focused on the team.

At 33 years old, the striker - who enjoyed the best moments of his career at Tottenham in England - has yet to score for Los Angeles FC in the league this season.

"A lot of people are worried, but I only worry if I'm not playing well. I don't think that's the case now," Son told Yonhap News agency after appearing for the South Korean team in Utah, in the United States.

"If I put the team above all else and think first about how I can best help the team, the goals will come naturally. That's how I've played my entire career, and that mentality won't change," he said.

The Taegeuk Warriors will compete in their 11th consecutive World Cup. In the edition held four years ago, in Qatar, the team reached the round of 16 before being eliminated by Brazil.

This year, South Korea will face co-hosts Mexico, as well as South Africa and the Czech Republic, in the group stage. The debut will be against the Czechs, in Guadalajara, on June 11th.

According to Son, the team's focus during the preparation period will be to correct details, without thinking in advance about a possible path in the tournament.

"Of course we want to do better than in the last World Cup. But we can't predict the future. The other teams will also be preparing very hard. More important than talking about results is doing our best every day", he concluded.
