The President of the United States, Donald Trump, called a cabinet meeting for this Wednesday (27). Trump will meet with top administration officials as tensions escalate in the Middle East, despite efforts to end the war.

Iran accused the US of violating the ceasefire following attacks on Iranian missile launchers and vessels - an action that US forces called defensive. In parallel, Israel intensified attacks against Lebanon and expanded ground operations in the south of the country.

Negotiators are still working on a memorandum of understanding that would end the war, but drafting differences over Iran's nuclear program and American sanctions have delayed a possible agreement.

And the American Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, stated that this process should take a few more days.

"It will take a few days for things to calm down... even disagreements over a word, a phrase," Rubio said. "We're going to have to sort this out."

There is strong political pressure on the White House to resolve the conflict, with important legislative elections approaching in the coming months. It is expected that, from an initial agreement that ends the war and leads to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, negotiators will have 60 days to deal with more complex issues, including Iran's nuclear program.

Cabinet changes
This will be Donald Trump's tenth cabinet meeting of this term.

The last one occurred on March 26th. Attorney General Pam Bondi, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer have since left their positions. The director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, is expected to leave the government next month.

The president visited the highly restricted presidential retreat in Maryland relatively few times - just once during his second term and 15 times during his first.

Change of address
The meeting was scheduled to take place at Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland, but was moved to the White House.

"Based on possible severe weather conditions, we will hold our Cabinet meeting at the White House and postpone the Cabinet trip to Camp David," Donald Trump posted on Truth Social.

Trump has only visited the presidential retreat a few times and has already made less-than-enthusiastic comments about the Maryland residence.

"Yes, Camp David is very rustic, it's cool, you would like it. Do you know how long you would like it? About 30 minutes," Trump said in an interview before taking office in 2017.

Originally called "Shangri-La", the site has been used as a presidential retreat and space to receive foreign leaders since Franklin Roosevelt's government. The peaceful 180-acre complex features log cabins, an outdoor pool, a one-hole golf course, a shooting range, a bowling alley and walking trails.
