Competing with Chinese electric models is not an easy task. Traditional brands are in direct battle to gain a share of this electrified car market, which is dominated by Chinese automakers. If you can't compete, you need a partnership.

This is what Chevrolet did, which brought the Captiva EV to Brazil. The 100% electric SUV, however, is nothing more than a Wuling Starlight S.

The model is sold in China by the joint venture between GM (General Motors) and the local company Saic, through the Wuling brand. The brand's strategy was to bring the car with the tie emblem printed on the body to attract more attention.

With a price of R$ 199,990, the Chevrolet Captiva EV operates in a price range with several competitors. The CNN Brasil report spent around 10 days with the electric SUV to understand its strengths and weaknesses.

In everyday life, the Captiva EV provides good drivability. The steering has a very light calibration (as in other electric models), which makes driving a pleasure. It is still possible to adjust the driving, steering and braking modes.

The suspension of the Captiva EV is typical of a Chinese car, with a softer characteristic. Despite this, at no point did we feel a lack of stability or insecurity.

In terms of autonomy, Chevrolet's 100% electric medium SUV promises 304 km of range. However, we far exceeded this expectation.

When leaving the dealership, it showed 3,719 km on the odometer (98% battery and 297 km of autonomy). When charging the car, the odometer showed 4,038 km (20% battery and 60 km of autonomy).

In practice, we managed to cover 319 km, and there was still another 60 kilometers of range left (379 km), reaching close to 400 km.

Check out all the negative and positive points of the Chevrolet Captiva EV below:

Negative points
No induction charger
Despite having space in the center console for two devices, the Captiva EV does not have an induction charger.

Multimedia can only be accessed with a cable
With a price of R$200,000, the Captiva EV leaves something to be desired in terms of wireless connection for smartphone pairing. You need to leave a USB cable in the car to transmit data.

No electrochromic rear view mirror
The technology is not present in the car. This type of rear view mirror automatically darkens to avoid glare from cars behind.

No front parking sensor
As it is a medium SUV, the electric Captiva deserved front parking sensors to help with maneuvers. It has the camera, but the sensor is missing.

Electric seat
The passenger does not have electrical adjustments for the seat. Everything is done manually.

Positive points
It has a spare tire
Many cars are coming without a spare tire, but the Captiva EV has a fifth wheel in the trunk, which can help in times of trouble.

In-person key
Just have the key in your pocket to unlock and lock the car. It's something simple, but also a great technology that provides convenience in everyday life.

Autonomy above what is advertised
As we said in the text, Captiva does more than it promises. With a range of 304 km, we surpassed this mark.

Comfortable seats
The Captiva EV's seats are comfortable everywhere. Both for those who are the driver, passenger, but also for the occupants in the second row.

Safety package
Chevrolet's 100% electric model comes with a comprehensive safety package, with adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, intelligent adaptive headlights, lane keeping assistant and more.
