The President of the United States, Donald Trump, called a cabinet meeting at the White House for this Wednesday (27), amid progress in negotiations between Washington and Tehran to transform the current ceasefire into a more lasting agreement in the Middle East.
Despite signs of rapprochement, disagreements over the wording involving the Iranian nuclear program and sanctions relief still hinder a definitive understanding. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the impasses focus on "one word, one sentence".
Negotiations gained new momentum after Iranian authorities returned from Doha, Qatar, this Tuesday (26), after what Tehran classified as "intense negotiations". The diplomatic process has been mediated by Pakistan.

In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said Washington had continued to promote "illegal and unfair actions" since the truce was announced.
According to Tehran, the US had also committed "numerous maritime robberies" and carried out attacks in the Hormozgan region, in southern Iran, in the last 28 hours. The area is home to part of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route for global oil transport.
On Monday (25), Centcom (US Central Command) confirmed that American forces carried out "self-defense strikes" against missile launch sites and Iranian vessels near the strait.

"American forces conducted self-defense strikes in southern Iran today to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces," said Centcom spokesman Timothy Hawkins.

According to Lebanese authorities, the victims include women and children. The government accused Israel of carrying out "a series of massacres" in different regions of southern Lebanon.
The Israel Defense Forces said it continued to attack "Hezbollah terrorists and infrastructure" and said the military eliminated members of the group who were preparing attacks against Israeli troops.
Lebanon security sources reported more than 120 Israeli bombings throughout the day, increasing pressure on the already fragile truce in place since April 16.
Part of the attacks occurred near Beaufort Castle, a medieval fortress almost 900 years old considered one of the best preserved castles in the region by Unesco. Bombings also hit areas near the Qaraoun Dam, Lebanon's largest water reservoir.
In addition to air strikes, Israel expanded ground operations in southern Lebanon. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israeli troops "are operating with large forces in the field and capturing and controlling areas."
