Matthew Perry's family has had their court statements released for the sentencing hearing of personal assistant, Kenneth "Kenny" Iwamasa, in the actor's death. The "Friends" star was found dead in October 2023 from a ketamine overdose.
In official documents presented on May 20, the actor's sisters, Catherine and Madeline, spoke about how the assistant told them a version of what happened that was completely different from what would turn out to be the truth.
In Madeline's account to District Judge Sherilyn Garnett, she recalls that, after the death, she and her sister had to choose clothes for her funeral, which she described as "one of the most painful experiences" of her life. "I remember how manic and distraught Kenny seemed. He repeatedly gave his version of events without being asked, as if he were being interviewed rather than mourning the death of a friend."

'I thought he was having a stroke', says Joe Biden's wife, about her husband's performance in the debate with Trump in 2024
Former US President, Joe Biden, in a photo with his wife, Jill Biden, and the couple's cat, in an image released on Ma..."In reality, he was trying to distract us from the truth: that he had injected my brother with a lethal dose of ketamine and left him to die in a hot tub." She adds that, upon learning the version of events presented by the prosecution, it was like reliving the death "from a totally new and devastating perspective."
"Kenny even spoke at Matthew's funeral. The person responsible for my brother's death stood up and spoke to the people who loved him most. This is like a cruel joke that I still struggle with. He didn't just take my brother's life - he tainted our last goodbye memories. It's hard to put into words the sense of betrayal I felt when I found out what he had done," concluded Madeline.
Caitin, Matthew Perry's other sister, made a separate statement about her feelings and accused him of manipulating the narrative. "I wouldn't make up a story to cover my tracks. I wouldn't try to extort money from a mother whose first-born son lost his life because of me," he stressed.

Perry's mother, Suzanne Morrison, echoed her daughters' statements and accused him of trying to monitor her after the incident. "Kenny's most important job - by far - was being my son's companion and guardian in his struggle with addiction. His main responsibility was to make sure Matthew remained who he wanted to be: drug free. And even after he killed my son, he continued to watch over me."
Kenneth Iwamasa's sentencing trial is scheduled for Wednesday (27), at which he faces up to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death.
