Singer João Lima, accused of trying to kill his ex-wife in Paraíba, is released

Singer João Lima, accused of attempted feminicide against his ex-wife, was released by decision of the 2nd Jury Court of João Pessoa, this Tuesday (26). The information was confirmed by the artist's defense.

The defense stated that the singer is already on provisional release and is at his home. The lawyers also confirm that the singer will need to comply with some precautionary measures.

In addition to the use of an electronic ankle bracelet, precautionary measures were also established: the delivery of João's passport within 24 hours; prohibition on being absent from the city in which you live for more than eight days without prior or express judicial authorization; Attendance at all procedural acts whenever requested, in addition to keeping your home and telephone addresses up to date.

After a complaint from the MPPB (Public Ministry of Paraíba) against the singer, he is a defendant and is responsible for attempted feminicide with aggravating asphyxiation, rape, bodily harm in the context of domestic violence, induction to suicide, threats and psychological violence against women.

Three days after what happened in the local security camera records, he went to his ex-wife's mother's house and made more threats, stating that he would kill her if she got involved with someone else.

She registered a police report at the Specialized Police Station for Women's Assistance in João Pessoa. Furthermore, he requested an urgent protective measure against the singer, which was accepted by the Court. The singer has been in pre-trial detention since January 25th of this year.

With changes in the powers defined by the Court of Justice of Paraíba and the Public Ministry itself, the case was subsequently forwarded to one of the Metropolitan Courts of the Jury Court of João Pessoa.

The artist's defense even requested habeas corpus so that the accused could respond to the case in freedom, but the Public Prosecutor's Office spoke out against the request. In his opinion, prosecutor Luciano Maracajá defended the maintenance of preventive detention as a way of guaranteeing public order and protecting the victim.
