The North American Jessica Pegula, seeded number 5, was eliminated in her Roland Garros debut this Tuesday (26) after losing to the Australian Kimberly Birrell by 2 sets to 1, with partials of 1/6, 6/3 and 6/3.
The defeat represents yet another frustrating chapter in Pegula's career in the French Grand Slam. The tennis player never made it past the quarterfinals in Paris and now has her third elimination in the first round of the tournament.
After a dominant start, in which he won the first set with ease, Pegula lost control of the match. Unforced errors began to appear frequently, allowing Birrell, current number 83 in the world, to take command of the match.
