Brazilian agribusiness diplomacy with Asia has strengthened and should increase the focus on exports of products from the sector to China and other neighbors on the continent, which should generate business worth more than US$45 million next year.

The interest was validated, after a series of meetings last week between Brazilian authorities and companies with foreign counterparts in Chinese cities.

China, the main destination for Brazilian agribusiness, has increased its relevance for shipments of animal protein from Brazil, while the government delegation tries to make product quotas more flexible with the Chinese.

"Travel balance came at a very good time, because we continue to have very competitive Brazilian meat and it is easier to present our product", says Lygia Pimentel, livestock specialist and columnist for CNN Agro.

According to the analyst, there are challenges to overcome, especially those related to communication.

"On the other hand, we observe that the tour of Asian countries shows a very strong tendency to increase distribution there", highlights Pimentel.

So far, data from the MDIC (Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services) shows that the Asian country accounted for 32.7% of the US$ 169.2 billion exported by Brazilian agriculture in 2025.

This movement gained momentum during SIAL Shanghai, one of the largest global fairs in the food and beverage sector, held between May 18 and 20, in the city of the same name.

The event brought together professional buyers from 132 countries and regions and has established itself as an important business platform for exporting companies, reported ApexBrasil.

Brazil participated with more than 80 exhibitors. Among them, ABPA (Brazilian Animal Protein Association), which took national agribusinesses to the event through the sectoral brands Brazilian Chicken, Brazilian Pork, Brazilian Egg, Brazilian Breeders and Brazilian Duck.

According to an ABPA survey, contacts made during the fair are expected to generate US$45.5 million in business over the next 12 months.

During the three days of the event alone, US$3.25 million in sales were achieved.

"China is a central partner for the sector's exports, and presence at the event allows us to reinforce attributes such as quality, health safety and reliability of Brazilian products", stated the entity's president, Ricardo Santin, in a statement.

Brazilian Beef Project
Another highlight of Brazilian participation was the "Brazilian Beef" project, by Abiec (Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries), also carried out in partnership with ApexBrasil.

The Brazilian pavilion occupied more than 1,200 square meters and brought together 24 companies, an increase of 20% compared to the previous edition of the fair.

Strengthening relationships with local buyers and distributors was one of the main objectives of the project, highlighted in a statement the president of Abiec, Roberto Perosa.

In total, 13,978 business meetings took place during the three days of the event, according to the fair's organizers.

Buyers from countries such as the United States, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Australia participated, as well as large Chinese retail chains.

The next edition of the fair is already scheduled to take place between May 18 and 20, 2027.

In addition to China, Brazil's strategy for commercial expansion in Asia also includes Southeast Asia.

The country has already confirmed its participation in Food & Drinks Malaysia by SIAL, which will be held between July 21 and 23, in Malaysia.

Pimentel remembers that countries with a tendency for accelerated population growth, such as Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines, have an interesting profile of trading partners.

Although, at first, they add little in value, they can represent a significant increase in volume for Brazil's trade balance in the coming years.

"The partnership with these countries is positive and we need to work very closely with them and they will certainly be important customers in the not too distant future", he stated.

Furthermore, culturally, Asian countries consume offal and parts of beef or poultry that in Brazil are considered inferior, such as chicken feet.

This type of product, adds Lygia, tends to open up even more space for Brazil as a leading supplier in the region.
