Brazilian man injured in the heart by swordfish is discharged in Costa Rica

Brazilian surfer Fabiano Duarte, 42, was medically discharged this Tuesday (26) from a hospital in San José, Costa Rica, after being hit in the heart by a swordfish in the open sea.

According to the physical educator's wife, Priscilla Carlesso, Fabiano will be taken to a hotel before returning to Brazil, next Monday (1st).

He had been in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) since Thursday (21), the day of the accident, and ended up in a coma, after undergoing delicate heart surgery. The accident occurred in the Pavones region, one of the best-known surfing spots in the country.

Fabiano lives in Balneário Camboriú and prepared for months for the international trip. He is known on the coast of Santa Catarina for leading expeditions and sporting activities in Hawaiian canoe groups, mainly in Itajaí, in the north of the state.

While surfing, he was seriously hit by the swordfish. Part of the animal entered his chest, reaching his heart.

Upon seeing Fabiano injured, a German doctor who was in the water began providing first care to the man who was already out of the water. "A doctor who was on the beach saved his life there in the sand", says the text of the virtual kitty.

The physical educator was taken to the hospital in the interior of Costa Rica, however, due to the complication of the case, he was transferred by air to a medical unit in the capital, where he underwent heart surgery.

Physical preparation
According to people close to Fabiano, he followed a disciplined plan, with a balanced diet, daily training, swimming, cycling, paddling and constant surfing for three months. He lost more than 10 kilos through this process.

Physical conditioning was essential to stabilize the surfer's clinical condition and avoid more severe complications.

On CNN Brasil, Priscilla said that Fabiano was driven by adrenaline, sport and health. "Fabiano is emotion," he said. "Today I'm managing to be more rational", says the wife after following the surfer's improvement.
