Scale 6×1: Hugo rejects businesspeople's request for free overtime

The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), stated in an exclusive interview with CNN Brasil that the productive sector's request was rejected so that, in the transition period from the end of the 6×1 scale, any overtime calculated between the difference worked in the current model and the proposed one would not be charged.

"Whatever is overtime, will be overtime. Whatever is time worked, will be time worked", said Hugo.

If the end of the 6×1 scale is approved by the National Congress, workers will have two days off per week. The opinion of the rapporteur of the PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution), deputy Leo Prates (Republicanos-BA), foresees the beginning of the reduction in working hours 60 days after the text is promulgated.

Under the proposal, the working hours limit drops to 42 hours per week after 60 days of the promulgation of the new constitutional amendment, with paid rest of two days per week. Twelve months after this stage, the limit will be definitively set at 40 hours per week.

What the production sector was looking for was that any overtime in the new limit would not be charged as overtime during the transition.

In Brazil, the CLT (Consolidation of Labor Laws) guarantees that the amount paid for overtime must be at least 50% higher than normal hours. Or they are recorded in a time bank, which may grant the worker time off.

Hugo was categorical in reinforcing that the production sector's request was not accepted.

"We would be trying to play with the intelligence of the working class", he emphasized.

"The Chamber will not make exceptional decisions to meet the economic interests of any sector. We want to have this bill to ensure that sectors are not harmed, nor are workers", he concluded.
