Rogéria Bolsonaro emerges as the PL's main bet to compete for one of the Senate seats in Rio de Janeiro in 2026. The final decision, according to Tainá Falcão for Backstage CNN this Tuesday (26), will be in the hands of Jair and Flávio Bolsonaro.

The move occurs amid growing internal pressure within the party for former governor Cláudio Castro to be ruled out of the Senate race. Members of the PL set a deadline of June 20th for a definition to be made, in order to prevent the lack of definition from contaminating political articulations in the state.

The preference is not only based on the child's desire, but also on recent research data. Tainá cites the survey carried out by Paraná Pesquisas in April, which showed Benedita da Silva (PT) in first place in the race for the Senate, with Castro technically tied in the sequence.

In a scenario without the former governor, Rogéria appears with 28.1% of voting intentions, behind only Benedita, that is, at the same level of votes that Castro recorded.

Still, Flávio Bolsonaro has avoided publicly defending his mother's name so as not to generate discomfort within his political group in Rio de Janeiro. Another name mentioned for the space is Rodrigo Bacellar (União Brasil), former president of the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro, although he is not affiliated with the PL.

Castro's situation
There is an assessment among PL leaders that Castro needs to concentrate efforts on his defense in the face of two police operations, one related to the Refit refinery and the other, launched this Tuesday morning, in the Master case.

The guideline, according to Flávio Bolsonaro's allies, is that the former governor dedicates himself to his legal situation before insisting on a pre-candidacy.

Despite the internal pressure, party members say that Castro will be heard before any definitive decision is made, and should speak with Flávio Bolsonaro and the state president of the PL, federal deputy Altineu Côrtes.

Tainá recalls that, in the previous police operation, Castro had been emphatic: "I'm a candidate, I'm first in the polls, why am I going to give up?". However, the political scenario around him deteriorated as the investigations progressed.

Centrão and articulations around the platform
While the PL awaits a definition about Castro, Centrão leaders have already entered the field to explore possibilities. Candidates who intend to run for a seat in the Chamber of Deputies and want to stand on Flávio Bolsonaro's platform express resistance to appearing alongside the former governor.

Antônio Rueda, president of União Brasil, has sought out right-wing parliamentarians in Rio de Janeiro to discuss platform options in the state, getting closer to Jair Bolsonaro's PL.

At the same time, the party monitors the impact of the leaked audios between Flávio Bolsonaro and Daniel Vorcaro through internal research.

If the wear and tear continues, it is estimated that it would be more viable for Flávio to seek re-election to the Senate in Rio de Janeiro and launch another name for the presidential race. The possibility is denied by Valdemar Costa Neto and Jair Bolsonaro, but remains in the background in the party's articulations.
