The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), defended in an exclusive interview with CNN Brasil that the end of the 6×1 scale is not "the great villain" for Brazil's productivity.

"If productivity in the country is low, it is not because we have a working class that does not work", he emphasized, indicating that increasing production efficiency "requires a discussion about the country as a whole".

Hugo pointed out that improving the indicator involves reducing bureaucracy, the efficiency of the tax system, investment in technology and industrialization and the adoption of successful international models.

Critics of the PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) that reduces working hours point out that the reduction in hours worked will affect the country's productivity.

The indicator refers to the delivery of results by a person or company during a specific period, consisting of the "added monetary value per worker", that is, the generation of wealth produced from someone's work.

However, the deputy stated that he is "completely convinced that we will gain in productivity when we reduce the working day here in our country."

"The worker having a reduction will have the opportunity, when they are in the work environment, to be able to dedicate themselves more, to work more committedly", he argued, highlighting that the smaller scale may be accompanied by fewer medical certificates.

Brazil is facing an increase in sick leave due to mental disorders, which will cost the INSS (National Social Security Institute) almost R$1 billion in 2025.

Just last year, a historic record of more than 546,000 absences from work due to mental disorders was recorded - an increase of 15.6% compared to 2024, according to Social Security.
