The Brazilian synthetic semaglutide pen, analogous to Ozempic, manufactured by EMS and approved today by Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency), still has no estimated price or launch date.

The drug Ozivy is manufactured by EMS and is a synthetic version of the same active ingredient as Ozempic, which had its patent overturned on March 20.

In a press conference this Tuesday morning (26), the company's vice president stated that there is still no definition of when the drug will be available to the public, nor the sales price.

"We work to make the price accessible to the medical profession and the population and below the value sold in the market. The final price is not yet finalized, but we are looking at accessibility", said Marcus Sanchez.

He also stated that pricing should be 30% lower than the main options available. According to the pharmaceutical company, EMS will sell the pen in three doses: 0.25 milligram, 0.5 mg, 1 mg and 1 mg with two pens.

Ozivy is part of the so-called GLP-1 type medicines and is made from semaglutide, the active ingredient in Ozempic medicines. This category is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and is popularly known as "slimming pens".

"We understand that semaglutide is a desired product, with a very large pent-up demand that we cannot estimate. There are needs for options to be created for the medical profession and for patients", stated Sanchez. "Initially, the product is focused on diabetics, always with a medical prescription."

At the press conference, the company said it expects to sell 1.2 million doses of the medicine in the first year, with revenue of R$500 million.

EMS said it filed a request with the Medicines Market Regulation Chamber this Tuesday to estimate the maximum value of the medicine.
