President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) once again defended the Program Against Organized Crime, launched last week, during an agenda in Manaus this Tuesday (26).

Lula stated that "whoever wants to own the territory will own the jail", in reference to stricter action against the actions of criminal factions.

"We created a law, we approved a law, against organized crime. We are going to act very hard against banditry that arrives in a city, takes over the city, takes over the territory and doesn't let the people live in peace. [...] From now on, whoever wants to own the territory will own the jail, they will be arrested, because the territory belongs to the people of Brazil, it doesn't belong to criminals or it doesn't belong to people linked to organized crime", declared the president.

The program created by the government comes as a response to the Brazilian electorate's concern about public security. In observing this demand, Palácio do Planalto has sought to carry out an offensive on the issue in this election year.

In addition to the program launched this month, another government flagship is the PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) which reformulates the Brazilian system, with greater integration between police forces of all spheres and greater integration with the Federal Police, as well as the implementation of the Susp (Single Public Security System).

Despite being approved in March in the Chamber, the PEC remains at a standstill in the Senate, waiting for the President of the House, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), to submit the text for analysis and voting.

During an interview last Friday (22) on the program "Sem Censura", on TV Brasil, Lula appealed to Alcolumbre for the project to be unlocked and voted on in the Casa Alta.

"I'm waiting for the Senate, I'm even appealing to President Alcolumbre: put the Security PEC to vote so that this country will definitively solve the public security problem", he declared.
