A serological examination ruled out that the health condition of the 10-year-old child hospitalized at the beginning of May, in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, was related to contamination by a detergent from the batch collected by Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) of the Ypê brand.

According to Sesap-RN (State Secretariat for Public Health of Rio Grande do Norte), the diagnosis confirmed that the child had infectious erythema caused by human parvovirus.

CNN Brasil also contacted the Natal Health Department, which stated that the child was diagnosed with urticaria multiforme. The report asked the department for more information.

Understand the diagnosis
Erythema infectiosum is caused by human parvovirus B19. It is commonly identified in children, causing reddish spots and some bumps on the skin. However, the infection can be asymptomatic.

In adults, it can cause swelling in the hands, wrists and knees, and pregnant women have a high risk of miscarriage.

Contamination occurs directly between humans through contact with respiratory droplets or infected blood.

After contact with the virus, some people develop immunization against the disease.

Remember the case
The child was admitted to the UPA (Emergency Care Unit) Pajuçara on May 7 with suspected contamination related to the cleaning product after showing stains behind the ear and on one of the hands. She was transferred to the Varela Santiago Children's Hospital for specialized treatment.

This symptom was announced by Anvisa as one of the consequences for people who had contact with batches with final number 1, which were recalled due to irregularities related to microbiological contamination.

The contamination hypothesis was taken into account, as family members told the report that the minor came into contact with the product the day before hospitalization, on the 6th.

Thirteen days later, she was discharged from Hospital Infantil Varela Santiago without showing any further symptoms.
