Red Command paid for trips to train "soldiers" in the war in Ukraine

The CV (Comando Vermelho), considered the largest criminal faction in Rio de Janeiro, has paid for plane tickets for members (who have no police record) to leave Brazil and volunteer in the war between Russia and Ukraine, according to CNN Brasil.

According to investigations, the objective is for the suspects to return from the conflict and pass on the knowledge of military combat acquired in the war to other members of the faction.

To date, the Undersecretariat of Intelligence of Sesp (State Secretariat of Public Security) has already identified two suspects who left the country and ended up fighting in the conflict in Ukraine. According to what was found, even in the Eastern European country, the men still exchanged messages with members of the Red Command to share military information about the war.

In an interview with CNN Brasil, the delegate and undersecretary of Intelligence of the Rio Civil Police, Pablo Sartori, stated that the agents identified that, after about a year in Ukraine, the suspects returned to Brazil and headed directly to Complexo do Alemão, in the north of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

The situation began to worry the authorities when investigations showed that the suspects were providing training on the use of agricultural drones, which have the capacity to support up to 80 kg, in a military manner.

"They started using these drones to make videos monitoring communities and police operations. In addition to already using the equipment as an attack weapon, throwing grenades and other explosive devices [...] They acquired and were training a group of people from organized crime to operate this drone", said Sartori.

One of the training sessions with the drone, the date of which was not disclosed, was caught by the police. In the image, enhanced by artificial intelligence by the authorities, it is possible to see the equipment being handled by the suspects. See:

"They intend for the drone to be used to facilitate the movement of weapons and ammunition between communities without going over the asphalt and avoiding police approaches", highlighted the undersecretary.

The model that appears in the filming area has not yet been identified by authorities. However, investigations indicate that this type of equipment tends to have a high value as it is easier to track and is not easy to sell.

For Sartori, drones represent the faction's greatest expertise currently in relation to military innovation (acquired in Ukraine).

The use of drones was already used by the faction on other occasions against police actions. In October last year, for example, a drone controlled by members of Comando Vermelho was caught dropping bombs during a mega police operation carried out in Complexo da Penha, in the north of Rio. Watch:

Currently, Comando Vermelho is considered the largest faction in Rio de Janeiro and the second largest in Brazil.

The faction has characteristics that denote a scheme similar to mafiosos, due to its dominance of the production chain of most of the illegal activities in which it operates. Drug trafficking is still one of the main areas of activity of the Rio criminal group.

In addition, the CV expanded the way it guarantees weapons that are used in "wars". Today, not only does it use weapons imported from other countries, but it also makes use of the manufacture of a "war arsenal" in Brazil itself.

Recent episodes show an advance in the use of high technologies such as the use of drones during "pitched battles".

The faction is not only present in Rio de Janeiro.

CV's operations reached mainly the North and Northeast of the country.

The relationship between criminals from Rio and other regions is considered close and many members of the faction seek refuge in complexes dominated by the CV in Rio.
