The all-electric Ferrari Luce is expected to be available later this year
Ferrari
Luxury sports car manufacturer Ferrari launched on Monday (25/05) its first all-electric car - the Luce - which will cost US$640,000 (R$3.2 million).
The new model moves away from the typical Ferrari look as it is the Italian brand's first five-seater car, created in collaboration with the LoveFrom agency, founded by former Apple design chief Jony Ive.
Some social media reactions to the launch were extreme - from "straight to the scrap heap" to "a true design masterclass". Luce, which means "light" in Italian, took half a decade to develop.
Ferrari plans to launch the electric vehicle after initially scrapping that idea, opting instead to make hybrid cars powered by both gasoline and electricity.
The Luce runs on a Ferrari-made electric motor at each wheel, helping the car reach 60 mph in about 2.5 seconds.
The company said all components are made in-house, so the car can be repaired by the company itself at the future, protecting the resale value of the Luce.
Auto industry giants' shift to electric vehicles has faced major obstacles in recent years.
Carmakers including Ford and Volkswagen have doubled down on gasoline cars, especially in the US, due to low demand and regulatory changes under President Donald Trump, who slashed incentives for electric vehicle buyers.
The launch of Jaguar's electric concept car was heavily criticized for abandoning the British brand's classic styling.

Ferrari's introduction of the Luce faced similar criticism.
One person said on In one post, one person said: "A true masterclass in design. Ferrari has just revealed the stunning LUCE concept, which is a game-changer."
Ferrari design director Flavio Manzoni said in an interview with YouTuber Cleo Abram that critics are part of the innovation process.
He acknowledged that the concept of a redesigned electric Ferrari is "polarizing" but believes people will appreciate it in the coming months.
Ferrari also said it will continue offering gasoline and hybrid cars along with its all-electric vehicle.

Ferrari's direct competitors have scaled back their electric vehicle ambitions.
Lamborghini has abandoned its plans to launch all-electric cars, opting for hybrid models, citing low demand for high-end luxury electric vehicles.
Germany's Porsche has scaled back its plans for electric vehicles due to weak demand, pressured by low sales in China and tariffs in the US.
Western automakers have also faced intense competition from manufacturers Chinese companies, which are able to produce vehicles faster and at lower costs.
Ferrari is the most valuable car manufacturer in Europe.

It relies on selling highly exclusive cars - a strategy that has helped shield Ferrari from much of the pressure it faces from competitors.
However, Ferrari shares fell more than 25% last year, reflecting a larger drop in luxury brands as inflation around the world affected demand for high-end products.
