Commentators Alessandro Soares and Helio Beltrão discussed, this Tuesday (26), in the Freedom of Opinion section, about the end of the 6×1 scale, the trip of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) to the United States and the discussions about the Bolsa Família that took over social media.

The PEC (Proposed Amendment to the Constitution) that foresees the end of the 6×1 scale can reduce the weekly working hours in Brazil to up to 40 hours and guarantee two days of rest per week, according to the opinion of the project's rapporteur, deputy Leo Prates (Republicanos-BA), presented this Monday (25).

The text establishes that the change, if approved in the Chamber and the Senate, must be implemented gradually. Firstly, the maximum working hours would fall to 42 hours per week within 60 days after the enactment of the PEC and, 12 months later, it would be reduced to 40 hours.

Commentator Alessandro Soares highlights that politically there is an action by both the federal government and the president of the Chamber of Deputies himself, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB).

"Many analysts indicate that this would be a measure of a populist nature. But we need to be a little careful because practically all social rights, and I can mention here those that are related to work, such as a guarantee fund, vacations, 13th salary, maternity leave... they all have a populist character because they meet a very large demand from the population. So, it is a measure that should have a political impact, yes. That's why I believe there will be a struggle from the opposition to move this forward", he says.

Helio Beltrão understands that the PEC is an electoral setup by President Lula (PT) and Hugo Motta to give a real increase of 5% to all Brazilians on the eve of the election.

"It's an electoral and irresponsible measure. So, whoever wins with the end of the 6x1 scale is the class struggle, it's the belief that the state can solve productivity, or can increase salaries by decree. And whoever loses is the future unemployed, those who believed in the magic thinking it was true. I say this because a stroke of the pen that gives a real increase in salaries throughout Brazil will obviously cause the dismissal of many people, especially the less qualified, because if they don't add to the company at least what they gain, they need to leave", he says.
