Find out where the PF searches for investments in the Master

The PF (Federal Police) completed the eighth phase of Operation Compliance Zero this Tuesday morning (26), which investigates the financial crime scheme involving Banco Master. In total, the PF carried out 10 search and seizure warrants today, in Rio de Janeiro and the Federal District.

In Rio, the main target is former governor Cláudio Castro (PL-RJ). The PF investigates the possible commission of crimes within the scope of Rioprevidência (Single Social Security Fund of the State of Rio de Janeiro), which manages the retirement and pension money of Rio de Janeiro state employees.

It is common for part of the money from pension funds to be invested in the financial market to earn income and, in the case of the institute, around R$3 billion was placed in financial products linked to the Master. In practice, the PF investigates the reason why so much public money was placed in funds linked to the bank and whether or not there was a financial crime in these investments.

According to the Federal Police note, "the investigation is an offshoot of Operation Paper Boat, which identified suspicious contributions from Rioprevidência in Letras Financeiras from a private bank that totaled around R$970 million, between October 2023 and July 2024."

The bank would have inflated the value of credit portfolios and funds linked to the institution to convey an image of greater financial solidity. In practice, investigators determine whether assets that are difficult to receive or at high risk were registered at values above the real, which could mask the bank's financial situation and attract investments from public funds and private investors.

There is still no information on who were the targets of the warrants in the Federal District. CNN contacted the PF for more information and is awaiting feedback.
