Why did Castro leave the Rio government? Remember

The former governor of Rio de Janeiro Cláudio Castro (PL-RJ) is one of the targets of the eighth phase of Operation Compliance Zero, launched this Tuesday morning (26) by the Federal Police investigating contributions to Rioprevidência. Through 10 search and seizure warrants, the PF is investigating the institute's contribution of R$3 billion to the extinct Banco Master, owned by Daniel Vorcaro.

In March of this year, Castro resigned as governor of the State on the eve of a trial at the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) that analyzed actions to make him ineligible for eight years for alleged abuse of political and economic power in the 2022 elections.

The TSE's action against the former governor targeted involvement in an alleged irregular hiring scheme at Fundação Ceperj (Rio de Janeiro's State Center for Statistics, Research and Training of Public Servants), with around 27,000 temporary positions that, according to investigations, would have been used to employ canvassers and strengthen Castro's re-election campaign in 2022.
