Exactly one year ago, the Brazilian Football Confederation announced the hiring of Carlo Ancelotti as the new coach of the Brazilian National Team. The arrival of the multi-time European champion ended a long soap opera involving the CBF and the then Real Madrid coach.

The first foreigner to effectively take over the main national team in more than six decades, Ancelotti arrived in Brazil surrounded by expectations, pressure and the mission of rebuilding a team shaken after poor results in the post-Qatar cycle.

Qualifiers and friendlies
The start of the work was cautious. The debut took place in June 2025, with a goalless draw against Ecuador, away from home, in the South American Qualifiers. A few days later, however, came the first victory: 1-0 over Paraguay, in São Paulo, a result that practically guided Brazil's qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Throughout the season, Ancelotti consolidated a more balanced model defensively and bet on a mix between experienced players and young revelations of European and Brazilian football.

In one year of work, the coach made five official call-ups and promoted important changes in the structure of the National Team. Historic names, such as Neymar, once again gained prominence, while athletes little used in previous cycles began to receive opportunities.

The latest list, released at the Museum of Tomorrow, in Rio de Janeiro, defined the 26 called up for the World Cup, including Neymar Jr., and symbolized the completion of the Italian's first complete cycle as head of Amarelinha. The coach renewed his contract with the CBF until 2030.

In addition to the results, Ancelotti also changed the internal environment of the national team. The close relationship with the players and the coach's more serene profile began to be praised behind the scenes at the CBF and by the squad's leaders. The strategy was seen as a response to the turbulent period experienced by the Seleção after the passage of Ramon Menezes, Fernando Diniz and Dorival Júnior in the cycle until 2025.

The World Cup is coming
Now, Ancelotti is preparing for the biggest challenge since accepting to lead Brazil: the debut in the 2026 World Cup. The first match will be against Morocco, on June 13, in New Jersey, in the United States. Afterwards, the team will still face Haiti and Scotland in the group stage.

One year after taking office, the Italian coach arrives at the World Cup under the responsibility of seeking a sixth championship, but supported by the recovery of the environment and the hope of putting Brazil back at the top of world football.
