Did you know that body awareness can help - a lot - with training? This concept, which involves the perception of one's own body in movement and at rest, has gained prominence among physical education professionals and physiotherapists. In practice, developing body awareness means connecting body and mind to improve the execution of movements, making exercise more efficient.
During a bodybuilding workout, for example, body awareness allows you to understand if the posture is correct, if the right muscles are being activated or if there are compensations - such as transferring the effort to other parts of the body, which can compromise the result, cause pain or even injuries.
In activities such as pilates, yoga and dance, this perception is fundamental to align breathing, strength and balance, promoting a more fluid and controlled movement.

"Normally, people have difficulty performing basic motor actions such as running or jumping, difficulty learning complex motor skills and coordinating movements such as dancing, difficulty relating their body to the environment such as tripping and bumping", details Renata Suárez, physical educator.

In addition to improving physical performance, developing body awareness favors posture in everyday life, reduces tension and contributes to the prevention of chronic pain, especially in the back and joints.
People who spend a lot of time sitting or standing tend to adopt inappropriate postures, and a lack of body awareness worsens these imbalances.
For those who are starting to train, it is worth prioritizing the quality of movement rather than quantity or weight, in the case of bodybuilding. Stretching, balance and coordination exercises help to increase body awareness. Over time, this awareness becomes natural, and training becomes more efficient - not only to achieve aesthetic results, but also to ensure greater health and well-being.
"Building good body awareness is the first step in developing the exercises, building the support fibers in a stabilization process so that we can then move on to more intense exercises, ensuring that the skeletal and structural system is very well symmetrical and balanced to support the exercise journey with a well-aware body", concludes Risso.
