USP professors join the student strike after assembly

Professors from USP (University of São Paulo) approved, this Monday (25), joining the student strike taking place at state universities in São Paulo.

The decision was taken at a general meeting of Adusp (USP Teachers' Association), which decided to begin the strike immediately and called a new meeting for June 1st.

According to the entity, among the teachers' demands are the reopening of negotiations between Cruesp (Council of Rectors of São Paulo State Universities), the Fórum das Seis, the USP rectory and the students.

The teachers also defend a salary adjustment of IPCA plus 3%, an increase in the value of the PAPFE (Student Permanence and Training Support Program), reorganization of the academic semester and the non-punishment of students involved in the demonstrations.

Another point mentioned by Adusp is the investigation of the responsibilities of the action of the Military Police of the State of São Paulo during the vacancy of the university rectory.

The association also called for a vigil for this Tuesday (26), in front of the USP rectory, during a meeting of the University Council.

Student strike
Last Wednesday (20), the Government of São Paulo received students from USP, Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho and Universidade Estadual de Campinas to discuss the demands of the strike movement.

The meeting took place after demonstrations held by students in the capital of São Paulo.

According to USP's DCE Livre, the students are also asking for a public retraction regarding the evacuation of the rectory by the Military Police and the shelving of the investigation investigating protesters.
