US military forces carried out "self-defense attacks" in southern Iran this Tuesday (26, Monday night in Brazil), according to the country's Central Command.
The attack comes at a time when negotiators from the two countries are working on an agreement to put a definitive end to the war, which began at the end of February.
According to Central Command, or CentCom, the targets included missile launch sites and Iranian regime vessels that were said to be installing underwater mines.
The actions were carried out "in a limited manner during the ongoing ceasefire", according to the US Armed Forces.
The attacks were planned "to protect our troops from the threats posed by Iranian forces", says the statement from the CentCom.
Earlier, Iranian authorities had reported explosions in the city of Bandar Abbas, on the southern coast of the country, where an important military base for the air and naval forces is located.
American and Iranian forces have maintained a ceasefire since April 8, while, on the diplomatic level, negotiations continue to find a way out of the conflict.

Peace agreement
The US and Iran had signaled progress towards a definitive peace agreement in recent days.

The war, triggered by attacks from the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic on February 28, led to the practical closure of the Strait of Hormuz, bombings by Iran against other countries in the region and the increase in energy prices.
On Saturday (23), Trump said he thought the agreement was close to being concluded - hours later, he also stated that he would "blow them [the Iranians] into a thousand hells" if the two parties did not reach a consensus by this Sunday.
Oil prices registered a drop This surged after a wave of optimism about a possible deal, after US chief diplomat Marco Rubio suggested that a deal could be imminent, but Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman responded that this "is something no one can sustain."
