Carla Zambelli, after being released by the Italian Court, is awaiting the decision of the Italian Court of Cassation on a second extradition process. This process is related to the episode in which she chased a man with a gun. CNN Politics analysts Pedro Venceslau and Matheus Teixeira comment on the matter.
The case adds to a series of defeats by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in foreign courts when trying to extradite people investigated in Brazil.
According to analyst Matheus Teixeira, very similar episodes occurred with blogger Allan dos Santos, in the United States, and with blogger Oswaldo Eustáquio, in Spain - in both cases, the respective courts rejected the extradition requests.

Venceslau explained that Zambelli has two convictions in Brazil.
The first is related to the invasion of the National Justice Council (CNJ) system, an episode in which a false arrest warrant was inserted against the minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), Alexandre de Moraes.
The second sentence, of five years in prison, refers to the armed persecution that took place in the second round of 2022. "The reading in the legal world is that it is a lower risk, given the first decision of the Court of Cassation", stated Venceslau, referring to the possibility of a new extradition.

He added that, in relation to the first process - that of the invasion of the CNJ system -, the issue has already been resolved, with the Court of Cassation having annulled the decision of the court of appeal that authorized the extradition.
Zambelli's lawyers, according to Matheus Teixeira, stated that, in the judgment in favor of the former deputy, the case of armed pursuit and illegal possession of a weapon would have already been mentioned, which would indicate a similar decision trend in the second case.
Currently, Zambelli is free in Italy, awaiting the trial regarding this second case.
Serial defeats abroad
In the case of Allan dos Santos, the United States Court understood that the crimes attributed to him were "crimes of opinion", protected by freedom of expression - an interpretation different from that adopted by the Brazilian Judiciary.
In the case of Oswaldo Eustáquio, the Spanish Court rejected the extradition, and even after an appeal presented by the AGU (Attorney General of the Union), the understanding was reaffirmed, preventing his return to Brazil to serve his sentence.
Teixeira also highlighted the case of Alexandre Ramagem, who fled the country and was detained abroad. There were expectations that he could be extradited to serve his sentence in Brazil, but once again the Brazilian justice system suffered a defeat, says the analyst.
"The government and the Supreme Court are studying how to appeal and try to avoid another defeat in a foreign court", concluded Teixeira.
