Cruzeiro receives a fine of more than R$500,000 from Conmebol; know the reason

Conmebol announced this Monday (25) that Cruzeiro was punished with a fine of 100 thousand dollars (around R$501.7 thousand) due to a case of discrimination that occurred in the duel against Boca Juniors, for the Libertadores, at Mineirão.

Conmebol's notification points to Cruzeiro's violation of article 15.2 of the entity's Disciplinary Code, which refers to discrimination. On the day in question, Argentine fans alleged that Cruzeiro fans tore up money as a way of provoking the situation of economic instability in the country. The article in question says the following:

Any Member Association or club whose fans insult or harm the human dignity of another person or group of people, by any means, for reasons of skin color, race, sex or sexual orientation, ethnicity, language, creed or origin, disability, political positioning or ideology, purchasing power, place of birth or for any other status or reason, will be sanctioned with a fine of at least ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND AMERICAN DOLLARS (US$100,000). In the event of a repeat offense, the offender may be punished with a fine of up to FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND US DOLLARS (US$400,000).

Article 15.2 of the Conmebol Disciplinary Code

The amount will be automatically debited from what Cruzeiro has to receive from Conmebol for TV rights and sponsorship. Boca Juniors, who had a fan detained for racism, also received the same punishment.

Cruzeiro will also have to display images in the stadium and on social media with the phrase "Respect is the holder". The punishment may be appealed within a period of seven calendar days. The appeal fee is 3 thousand dollars (R$ 15 thousand).
