The latest information about the traffic accident with a dead person on Avenida do Estado, in the central region of São Paulo, on the morning of this Monday (25), indicates that the driver who caused the accident was taking controlled medication at the time of the crash.


According to the police report, the suspect, who was driving a Fiat Abarth, had shown signs of intoxication during the approach, such as: drowsiness, slurred speech, mental confusion and an ethyl odor. He was arrested red-handed.


After the accident, the police requested a breathalyzer test to check whether there were traces of alcohol in his blood, but he refused. Given the situation, the man was taken to the IML (Legal Medical Institute) to undergo a clinical examination.

During the interrogation, accompanied by his lawyer, the author said he had recently received a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, and was therefore under the influence of the medications "Depakene" and "Risperidone", which caused side effects, leaving him "a little dizzy, unfocused, lethargic".


When asked if he was aware of the acts, the author replied that he was not and said he had no idea what his speed was at the time of the accident. Furthermore, according to the police, the suspect stated that his family had prohibited him from driving due to the diagnosis.


The police highlighted that, based on the author's defense, he would be incapable of carrying out acts of civil life due to a psychiatric condition and, consequently, unaccountable, he would not be able to understand the illicit nature of his acts.

At the end of the testimony, the driver was arrested in the act, without the possibility of paying bail. A police investigation was opened.

The accident
A car fell and was completely submerged in the Tamanduateí River after an accident with two other vehicles on Avenida do Estado, in the central region of São Paulo, on the morning of this Monday (25).


Firefighters confirmed one death. According to CNN Brasil, the victim was a man who was not wearing a seat belt in the driver's seat. The collision occurred under the East-West connection, at the height of the access viaduct to Avenida Rangel Pestana, towards Santana, at around 4:50 in the morning.


According to firefighters, the accident occurred after a white Fiat Abarth car, which was traveling at high speed, made a prohibited turn on the bridge, hit the side of a car, lost control and collided with a third vehicle, which fell into the river with its wheels up.


To CNN Brasil, the captain of the CBPMESP (Fire Department of the Military Police of the State of São Paulo) Leandro Soares said that the corporation searched areas close to the accident site and concluded that no one left the vehicle.


Due to the depth of the river, it was necessary to use diving equipment to locate possible victims. In the other two vehicles involved in the accident, there were a couple in one of them and a driver in the other. No one was injured in these vehicles.


In a statement, the SSP-SP (Public Security Secretariat of the State of São Paulo) reported that the first car hit was a Volkswagen Gol model. The driver is a 25-year-old man who was hit in the back of the car, but remained on the road after the crash. He did not suffer serious injuries.
