Porsche, BMW and jet ski: luxury vehicles are seized in operation in SP

An operation this Monday (25) arrested three people suspected of involvement in a fraud scheme and financial fraud against the elderly in São Paulo. During the action, several luxury cars and a jet ski were seized.

The action of the Deic (State Department of Criminal Investigations) carried out eight search and seizure warrants and another three for temporary arrest in the capital of São Paulo and in the cities of Mogi das Cruzes and Santo André.

The police pointed out that elderly people were attracted by the sale of courses that would teach them how to use non-existent Artificial Intelligence applications. The suspects also used shell companies with false promises of interest reduction and debt renegotiation.

Investigations indicate that the scams mainly targeted elderly people, who were contacted through calls or social networks. The money obtained allowed the group to purchase luxury goods, such as cars and high-end properties.

The criminal group took advantage of the victims' emotional and financial vulnerability to build an artificial appearance of legitimacy, transmitting trust and reducing the perception of risk. Investigations point to an organized criminal structure, with hierarchical division, use of concealment mechanisms and deliberate strategies to make it difficult to identify and hold those involved accountable.

Among those seized during the operation were a Porsche, BMW, Wolkswagen Nivus and the jet ski. The trio was taken to the police station and their belongings will undergo technical examination.

How did the investigations begin?
The investigations began after complaints were forwarded to official Civil Police channels. From there, investigators carried out analyzes to identify those involved.

The gang's activities involved crimes of serial embezzlement and criminal association. With the gathering of evidence, the São Paulo Court of Justice authorized the execution of the warrant carried out by police officers from the 2nd General Investigations Station (DIG).

Brazil leads the highest percentage of digital scams in Latin America
According to the Febraban Tech report, published in March 2026, digital fraud generated losses of around US$442 billion for the global economy in 2025, with illicit circulation of resources through the financial system.

When looking at Brazil, the Digital Banking Fraud Trends in Latin America 2026 report, by the digital security company BioCatch, scams involving stolen devices grew by around 340% in the country.

In relation to impersonation scams - when criminals pose as banks and companies to lure victims - these frauds have increased by around 140%.

In the Latin America ranking, Mexico and Argentina lead the ranking for the highest percentage of scams, second only to Brazil, which remains at the top.
