Inflation of products traditionally most consumed during World Cup games accumulated an average increase of 3.1% in the 12 months up to April.
However, the advance is smaller than that observed in the 2022 games, in Qatar, according to the survey by FecomercioSP (Federation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of São Paulo), based on data from the IPCA (Broad Consumer Price Index) from IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics).
On the eve of the Qatar World Cup, inflation for this same set of products reached 12.54%. Now, although some items have registered an increase, the intensity is considered moderate.

Beverages widely consumed during games also rose, such as beer, with an increase of 5.1%; soft drinks and mineral water, 5.59%; in addition to baked goods, 4.43%.

According to FecomercioSP, the comparison with the scenario of the last World Cup shows a significant improvement.
In that period, onions accumulated inflation of 151.76%, while products such as mayonnaise and baked goods registered increases of 30.64% and 20.55%, respectively.
The entity highlights that prices may vary depending on region, establishment and promotions, and recommends that consumers make purchases in advance to avoid an increase in demand in the days leading up to the Brazilian team's games.
"The expectation is for greater demand for meat, drinks and barbecue items, which can lead to queues and even occasional shortages of products", states the federation representing retail in São Paulo.

In the electronics segment, the scenario is also positive. Televisions saw an average drop of 2.93% in prices in the 12 months up to April, while stereos fell 0.46%.
On the other hand, the cost of repairing televisions rose 7.87%, indicating that some consumers may choose to maintain old devices instead of purchasing new models.
FecomercioSP's recommendation is that the purchase of electronics should also be made in advance, mainly due to delivery times, installation and testing of equipment.
