The construction industry closed another edition of ENIC (International Meeting of the Construction Industry) with an agenda marked by discussions on technology, productivity and structural challenges of the activity.

Held between May 19th and 21st, in the Anhembi District, in São Paulo, the meeting promoted by CBIC (Brazilian Chamber of the Construction Industry) brought together more than 2 thousand participants registered in a program with 145 panels, consolidating the event as a space for dialogue between businesspeople, experts, public authorities and leaders in the segment.

Over three days, the program covered topics that currently focus part of the discussions in the construction industry, such as the impacts of tax reform, changes in working hours, access to financing, industrialization, sustainability and digital transformation. The meeting also combined technical debates, business rounds, workshops and practical demonstrations of solutions that are already beginning to change the dynamics of construction sites.

"We achieved all the objectives here, of holding an ENIC combining content and exhibition area so that our production chain and the entrepreneurs themselves could present their innovations and future trends", assessed Renato Correia, president of CBIC.

CBIC has already announced the next edition of the meeting, scheduled for May 11th to 13th, 2027, again in the Anhembi District, in São Paulo.

Technology leaves the discourse and reaches the construction site
One of the most recurring themes in the program was the technological transformation of construction. Artificial intelligence, automation, industrialization, digital platforms and new tools aimed at productivity appeared in different panels as ways to reduce costs, increase efficiency and accelerate processes.

In addition to discussions, the event opened space for workshops and practical demonstrations of technologies already applied to the activity, including robots, 3D printers and solutions aimed at modernizing construction sites.

In an area of around 6 thousand square meters, ENIC brought together content rooms, business rounds and stands from 24 brands linked to the construction production chain, combining technical debates and spaces aimed at presenting solutions and technologies.

The discussions also broadened the perspective on competitiveness and long-term development, addressing global trends and opportunities for the Brazilian market.

Workforce presents a challenge that goes beyond technology
If innovation occupied an important part of the agenda, the discussion about people appeared as another central axis of the meeting.

The difficulty in training, attracting and retaining qualified professionals, especially engineers and specialized labor, was highlighted as one of the main challenges currently faced by the construction industry. In a scenario of increased activity and accelerated changes, representatives of the segment highlighted that modernization depends not only on the adoption of new tools, but also on the preparation of professionals for new demands.

The need to increase productivity also appeared associated with the reduction of historical bottlenecks and the search for more efficient work models.

Bureaucracy and regulatory environment are on the agenda
In addition to discussions about technology and productivity, the meeting reinforced bottlenecks considered historic for construction. Among them, the bureaucracy linked to licensing processes, issuance of permits and authorizations necessary for the execution of works.

The assessment presented by industry representatives is that the slowness of these processes continues to be one of the main obstacles to accelerating investments and new projects.

The topic appeared both in technical panels and in conversations between businesspeople and government representatives.

During the meeting, industry representatives also defended measures to accelerate processes linked to the issuance of licenses, permits and authorizations considered strategic for the execution of works.

Working hours and costs come into debate
Another topic that mobilized discussions was the possibility of changes to working hours, especially in relation to the debate about the end of the 6×1 scale, currently under discussion in the National Congress.

According to estimates presented during the meeting, changes to the current model could increase construction costs by around 10%, increasing pressure on companies that are already facing challenges related to hiring professionals and increasing operational expenses.

Housing financing also appeared among the central themes of the program. The discussions included credit instruments, FGTS resources and perspectives for programs aimed at popular housing, at a time when the industry seeks to expand access to housing and sustain the pace of new developments.

Networking and business gain prominence
This year's edition also expanded space for commercial connections and exchange of experiences between different segments of construction. Business rounds with an international reach, carried out by CBIC in partnership with ApexBrasil, were also part of the program.

For CBIC, one of the differences of the meeting was the ability to bring together leaders and decision makers in the same environment.

"ENIC has a very interesting characteristic: it is a very high-level event, with businesspeople, executives and people who have the capacity to define the direction of the sector", stated Fernando Guedes Ferreira Filho, executive president of CBIC.

Among the most notable moments of the program was the participation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the meeting, accompanied by ministers and other authorities. During the event's agenda, leaders from the construction industry presented demands considered priorities for the activity, including issues linked to productivity, costs, labor and regulatory environment.

The program also included the presentation of the CBIC Innovation and Sustainability Award, one of the highlights of the closing of the meeting.

More than presenting trends, this year's edition brought together discussions on productivity, technology, professional qualifications and the regulatory environment - topics that today appear among the construction industry's priorities. Over the course of three days, ENIC served as a snapshot of the agendas that have been mobilizing companies and leaders in the segment.
