President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated this Monday (25) that the "extreme right fears education because they know that it is where conscience is born". The statement was made during the first Brazil-Africa rectors' forum, in Brasília.
In addition to President Lula, the ministers of Education, Leonardo Barchini, of Racial Equality, Rachel Barros, and of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, were also present.
At the event, Lula reaffirmed the autonomy of Brazilian education and said that "universities do not depend on the type of government that governs the country".

Despite recognizing that artificial intelligence is a "strategic tool", Lula still criticized what he called "digital colonialism": "In the hands of a few countries and a few companies, algorithms have become an instrument of domination", he stated.
