Virada Cultural: Seven people are arrested during an event in SP

Seven people were arrested during the 21st edition of the Virada Cultural de São Paulo, held this weekend, between the 23rd and 24th of May, throughout the capital of São Paulo.

The event promoted 24 hours of uninterrupted programming with more than 1,300 free attractions spread across all regions of the city.

In a statement, the SSP (Public Security Secretariat) reported that the Military Police recorded seven incidents linked to the event, culminating in the same number of arrests.

Among the notable incidents, there was an arrest in the act for cell phone theft in the Republic region, located in the city center.

In addition, the actions of security agents resulted in the capture of three individuals who were wanted by the courts in different parts of São Paulo.

Reinforced operation
The arrests occurred amid a patrolling scheme set up to deal with the large volume of public, which was expected to reach 4.8 million people.

To guarantee security, around 4,200 police officers and 900 vehicles were mobilized, distributed at the entrances to the stages, road corridors and transport stations.

The PM (Military Police) also used technology to monitor the event, using fixed and mobile cameras in real time, drones and observation towers.

To accommodate the uninterrupted movement of the public around the city, the operations of the Metro and CPTM (Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos) operated for 24 hours throughout the weekend, operating with fleets of reserve trains to meet the increase in demand during the early hours of the morning.

Stations in the central region, such as Sé, São Bento, Anhangabaú and República received specific flow management and employee reinforcement strategies.

The 2026 Virada Cultural featured stars from different musical genres, such as Luísa Sonza, Péricles, Marina Sena, Seu Jorge and Michel Teló, as well as including shows by international artists, such as the French-Spanish singer Manu Chao.
