Pressured by a wave of protests that has lasted three weeks, the government of Rodrigo Paz, from Bolivia, asked Brazil to loan a plane.

The objective is to use the aircraft to help distribute humanitarian aid and supplies.

Sources from the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) told CNN Brasil that the request was made through diplomatic channels and is being analyzed. The tendency is for Brazil to respond to Peace's request, which has been in charge of Bolivia for just six months.

According to these sources, the Bolivian government has also requested supplies.

The center-right government is the target of protests in different states. Roadblocks organized by protesters in dozens of parts of the country have worsened fuel shortages and created food shortages.

Even the capital, La Paz, is experiencing a shortage of items such as chicken and some fruits and vegetables. In recent days, the government has had to organize food distribution to overcome the crisis.

In mid-May, Argentina, led by Javier Milei, sent a Hercules C-130 from its Air Force to assist in the distribution of food and essential products, to overcome difficulties in transporting cargo due to roadblocks.

The protests in Bolivia are carried out by trade unionists, miners, indigenous people and farmers, who are calling for an increase in wages and accusing the Paz government of implementing austerity measures.

The Bolivian president said this Monday (25) in a speech that he is open to dialogue, stated that he does not plan privatizations and announced that he will reduce 50% of his salary and that of his ministers.

Sought by CNN Brasil, the Bolivian government did not confirm the order for the aircraft.
