Bodybuilder Gabriel Ganley, found dead by a friend last Saturday (23) in the East Zone of São Paulo, had made an outburst seven months earlier about how the use of anabolic substances could "shorten" his life.
The 22-year-old influencer's death certificate indicates that he had a sudden death caused by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a condition in which the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick, which stiffens the organ and makes it difficult to pump blood.
The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported that the police are continuing to investigate the case and are awaiting additional tests from the Legal Medical Institute (IML) to clarify the circumstances of the death.
There is no official confirmation that the substances found were used by Gabriel.
'Shortening 10 years of my life life'
The cause of death coincides exactly with the warning that the athlete himself had made seven months earlier about the dangers of using anabolic steroids for vital organs.
The reflection on the risks caused by the use of high-performance synthetic hormones occurred during the athlete's participation in the Flow podcast, broadcast on October 27, 2025.
In the episode titled "The new era of bodybuilding", Ganley revealed that he was fully aware that the choice to stop being "natural" (jargon used for athletes who do not use synthetic hormones) would drastically reduce his life expectancy.
The transition to the new training routine and substances had begun in July of that year.
When asked by presenter Igor Coelho what the immediate and long-term negative effects of the sport would be, the young man minimized the superficial aesthetic damage and pointed out the severe complications in vital organs as the true price to be paid for his career:
"They think it's just taking [the bomb], and it's not. The biggest negative effect is in the long term. It's a heart problem, a liver problem. The real B.O. is knowing that you're shortening 10 years of your life. I have this awareness. I know that I want to pursue a career that will shorten [my life] by 10, 15 years."

Repercussion on the networks
After confirmation of Ganley's death, followers retrieved the excerpt from the podcast interview on social media.
On and the desire to build a family in the future.
"Making this decision at 22 years old is 'blurry'. Sometimes I think: I have the dream of being a father, will it be that when I have my son and my daughter, will I see 15 fewer years of my son growing up? I put everything on paper and said: I'm going to do it. But it was a very deep reflection", he said at the time.
Ganley also mentioned the initial dermatological reactions that he began to notice after the first three months of continuous use of substances:
"Hair didn't fall out at all. But pimples... I had smooth skin. Pimples started to grow. I'm going to start taking creams. Before I shit.

I'm taking care of my body, I have to take care of my face too", he reported.

'Media pressure'
Ganley pointed out the impact of pressure from the public and social networks after publicly assuming the transition in his career.
According to the athlete, the demand for immediate results operated at a different speed to the body's biological response.
"Media-wise speaking, I went to the end of the line. The pressure [from the media] became greater. People say: 'Now you're getting bombed, okay? I have to be like Ramon [Dino] next week'. This was all a price that I already knew I was going to have to pay."
