"Opossum smells like opossum", says Zema about approaches to Vorcaro

During an agenda in São Paulo this Monday (25), the former governor of Minas Gerais and pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic for Novo, Romeu Zema, once again criticized the relationship between politicians and bankers, without mentioning by name senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) and the owner of Banco Master, Daniel Vorcaro.

Last Wednesday (20), Zema stated that the explanations given by the son of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) for contact with Vorcaro "were not convincing". Today, the miner declared that his proximity to a "criminal banker is a bad sign".

"For me, anyone who approaches a criminal banker is a bad sign. A skunk smells like a skunk. I also don't believe them when they say that relatives are the solutions to the problem. When it's related and partnered, things become difficult to resolve," said the pre-candidate.

In conversation with reporters after this Monday's event, Zema spoke more about the subject and once again demonstrated disappointment with Flávio.

In the politician's assessment, the episode "is very worrying" and, considering recent electoral polls, he considers it a factor that could facilitate a victory for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in this year's election.

"It's very worrying. And if in 2022 it was already very difficult for the right, with this scandal now it's even more so, because in 2022 we didn't have anything that resembled this. So, I'm very worried that we are handing this election over to the left, once again. And these latest polls have shown that whoever is voting for Flávio, will most likely be handing the election to Lula, who maintained his position while he [Flávio] fell. That is, if not nothing else will emerge from now on", he added.

After the disclosure of conversations in which the senator demanded money from the banker to make the film "Dark Horse" - a biopic of Jair Bolsonaro -, Zema had already adopted a critical tone and distanced himself from the politician, demanding explanations.

On May 13, the date the audios were leaked, the politician from Minas Gerais classified the attitude as "unforgivable".

"Flávio Bolsonaro, hearing you demanding money from Vorcaro is unforgivable. It's a slap in the face to good Brazilians. There's no point in criticizing the practices of Lula and the PT and doing the same thing," said Zema at the time.

In the following days, while the Novo politician reinforced his criticism of the senator, the Bolsonarist base classified the Minas Gerais' statements as a maneuver to take advantage of the situation. Former deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro, Flávio's brother, classified the former governor's speech as an "unfounded accusation".

To CNN Brasil, Flávio said that Zema "didn't give him the opportunity to explain himself and ran to a studio to record a video and take advantage of it electorally."
