The Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, stated, this Monday (25), that Brazil's investment of 1.9% of GDP in innovation "is not enough" for the private sector and the government together.

The speech was made during the Eco Invest Brasil event, which marks the official launch of the initiative's 5th auction, focusing on industrial innovation and ecological transition.

According to the minister, the state has a role, and it is necessary to make a good investment and improve the use of qualified labor.

Durigan also stated that "the state does not own the truth" and emphasized the need to recognize the efficiency of private institutions and universities in the economic and financial modeling of the country.

"The state needs to provide catalytic capital and bring financial institutions to enable projects alongside the capacity of the private sector", stated the minister.

In February this year, the Eco Invest program reached around R$128 billion in capital mobilized after the first three auctions.

The third event alone generated R$52.8 billion in private investments, with a strong participation of international resources.

Eco Invest Brasil Auction
The Eco Invest Brasil auction works as a competitive dispute between financial institutions to determine who can attract the largest volume of private capital, whether national or foreign, for sustainable projects using the smallest possible amount of public resources.

Coordinated by the Ministry of Finance and the National Treasury, the program uses the concept of blended finance to boost the country's ecological transition.

According to official data released by the Ministries of Finance and the Environment, the Eco Invest Brasil program had already mobilized more than R$75 billion in sustainable investments by the launch of the fourth round.

The institutional opening was attended by the Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, and the Minister of the Environment, João Paulo Capobianco, as well as other authorities.

During the event, the executive secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Rogério Ceron, gave the technical presentation of the program's 5th auction.
