BO, forensic examination and reports: what is known about the death of Gabriel Ganley

The death of bodybuilding athlete and influencer Gabriel Ganley, aged 22, mobilized an investigation by the São Paulo Civil Police and still leaves unanswered questions about what happened in the hours leading up to his death. Found lifeless inside the apartment where he lived, in the east of the capital, Gabriel had the case registered as "suspicious death - sudden death, with no apparent determining cause".

Since then, testimonies from people close to us, information gathered in the police report and reports that began to circulate on social media have expanded the debate about the possible circumstances of the death, which, to date, has not had an officially confirmed cause.

The police record shows that family members had been trying to contact the athlete since the previous day and called a friend to go to the scene. After entering the property, the body was found in the kitchen. According to the BO, there were no apparent signs of violence and medications preliminarily described as possible anabolic steroids were seized for analysis. At the same time, a report shared by a friend raised the hypothesis of an episode of hypoglycemia related to the use of insulin. The information, however, has not been confirmed by the authorities and does not replace the expert examinations that should officially define the cause of death.

How Gabriel was found
According to police records, Military Police teams were called on Saturday morning (23) to respond to a report of a body found in an apartment located in Mooca, east of São Paulo.

According to the bulletin, a friend of the athlete went to the property after being contacted by family members who claimed they had not been able to contact Gabriel since the previous day. In his statement, he said that he decided to check the situation because it had previously happened that the influencer remained unresponsive while sleeping.

Upon arriving at the building, the friend reported that he noticed that the lights in the apartment remained on and tried to contact them several times. Without returning, he entered the property with the help of those responsible for the condominium after breaking in the door.

What the police report describes about the scene found
According to the bulletin, Gabriel was found lying on the floor of the apartment's kitchen, with no apparent signs of life.

The document records that there was a large amount of blood in the facial region and that the face had a reddish color. Despite this, the police reported that, in preliminary observation, no apparent signs of violence were identified at the location. The body was in a prone position, when the person is lying face down.

In a new statement described in the police report, the friend stated that he touched the body just to check if there was breathing and noticed that the skin was cold. He then called the Military Police by calling 190.

What was seized in the apartment
One of the points recorded in the bulletin is that, during the technical inspection of the property, several medications described preliminarily as possible anabolic steroids were found and seized.

According to the document, the items will later be forwarded to the responsible district for analysis.

To date, there is no official information indicating a relationship between the drugs found and the cause of death.

The police authority also noted that the apartment was clean and organized and that there were no apparent signs of struggle or violence in the environment.

What does "suspicious death - sudden death" mean?
The classification used by the Civil Police does not, in itself, represent confirmation of a crime.

In the police and medico-legal sphere, the framework is usually applied when there is a death without an immediately identifiable cause and which requires technical investigation to clarify the circumstances of the death.

In these cases, forensic examinations, analysis of the body, medical history and other elements collected help to indicate whether the death occurred due to natural causes or whether there is another factor involved.

What happens now in the investigation
The bulletin informs that the Legal Medical Institute (IML) was called and a technical examination was carried out in the apartment. Protocol and report number were also recorded to continue the investigation.

Only after the completion of the forensic examinations will it be possible to officially determine the cause of Gabriel Ganley's death.

Hypothesis cited by a friend involves hypoglycemia
Among the information that began to circulate after Gabriel Ganley's death is the report of a friend of the athlete, who mentioned, in an audio obtained by CNN, a possible occurrence of hypoglycemia before his death. To date, however, this hypothesis has not been confirmed by the authorities nor is it listed as an official cause of death.

According to the report, Gabriel had administered insulin the night before and then showed signs compatible with a drop in blood glucose levels. The hypothesis raised is that he would have slept during this episode and not woken up. There is still no expert confirmation about this sequence of events.

Hypoglycemia occurs when the amount of sugar (glucose) circulating in the blood falls below that necessary for the proper functioning of the body, especially the brain. Among the most common symptoms are excessive sweating, tremors, weakness, drowsiness, mental confusion, altered level of consciousness and fainting. In serious situations and without care, the condition can evolve into potentially fatal complications.

Insulin is a hormone naturally produced by the pancreas and used to treat people with diabetes. Outside of this context, its use requires medical supervision, as excess can quickly reduce blood glucose. In bodybuilding, the substance is occasionally mentioned by practitioners for its role in energy metabolism and nutrient transport, but experts warn that use without medical indication involves important risks.

According to endocrinologist Juliane Baptista Braziliano, recreational use by athletes for performance and aesthetic purposes is not safe and can lead to serious consequences such as death.

Another element that entered the radar is that, as recorded in the police report, the expert seized drugs in the apartment preliminarily described as possible anabolic steroids, which will be analyzed later. However, to date, there is no confirmation of a link between these items and Gabriel's death, and the cause of death remains dependent on reports from the Legal Medical Institute (IML).

Farewell takes place today (25)
While the investigation continues, family and friends say goodbye to Gabriel this Monday (25). In a post on social media, the athlete's mother, Clarisse Ganley, informed that the wake will be followed by a cremation ceremony scheduled for 11 am and that the farewell will take place privately.

In the message, Clarisse stated that the moment will be restricted to family and close friends. It was the mother's first public statement since confirming the influencer's death.

The athlete's death generated strong repercussions on social media and in the bodybuilding world.

Gabriel had accumulated more than 1.5 million followers and was preparing to compete in the Musclecontest Brasil event, scheduled for July, in Curitiba.
