In an interview after his victory against Luka Pavlovic, João Fonseca admitted that he thought about withdrawing from Roland Garros after the injury suffered before the ATP 500 in Hamburg. However, he managed to recover, and debuted with victory in the clay Grand Slam, against Frenchman Luka Pavlovic, this Sunday (24), by 3 sets to 0, with scores of 7-6, 6-4 and 6-2.

"Injuries will come. I don't know any player who doesn't have injuries. When they're playing, sometimes they play feeling something. It's normal, you have to know how to deal with it. I think every athlete feels a little bit. It's something that my team and I work hard on. Nobody wants to feel pain or not play tennis. We try to take care of our body, that's the priority", said João Fonseca about the injury that took him out of the Hamburg ATP.

In this sense, the Brazilian, who is 30th in the ATP rankings, stated that he even thought about leaving Roland Garros. The decision to stay in the competition only came on Friday (22), when he felt ready for the competition.

"For me it was important to make the decision not to play in Hamburg to feel 100% ready. When I came to Media Day (Friday) I was very happy because I didn't feel any pain, I was healthy to play. A few days ago we were deciding whether or not I would play (at Roland Garros). I feel very happy to be feeling healthy and well. It's something we try to control in some way to focus on each day even if I don't feel anything, you need to be mobile, it's something to focus on", pointed.
