Uber offers 10 billion euros for Delivery Hero

Delivery Hero reported that it received an acquisition proposal from Uber that values the German delivery company at around 10 billion euros, in yet another consolidation movement in the global delivery sector.

According to the company, the indicative proposal provides for the payment of 33 euros per share to all shareholders.

Delivery Hero stated that it remains "fully focused" on executing the strategic review and will release further updates as necessary or appropriate.

Uber did not comment on the matter.

The investment comes after Uber increased its stake in the company in recent weeks. The American company directly holds 19.5% of Delivery Hero and another 5.6% through financial contracts.

Last week, when announcing a new purchase of shares, Uber had stated that it did not intend to exceed 30% of voting rights nor promote relevant changes in the company's capital structure.

The possible deal reinforces the trend towards consolidation in the delivery sector, after the end of the boom in demand seen during the pandemic. In recent years, companies in the segment have sought mergers and acquisitions to gain scale and operational efficiency.

Among the recent operations are the purchase of the British Deliveroo by DoorDash, for around 2.9 billion pounds, and the acquisition of Just Eat Takeaway by Prosus, parent company of iFood, in a deal worth 4.1 billion euros.

Delivery Hero has been undergoing a strategic restructuring since last year. This month, the company announced that co-founder and CEO Niklas Ostberg will step down by March 2027, although he will remain in charge of negotiations related to the company's strategic review.

At around 9:05 am, Brasília time, Delivery Hero rose 10.18% in Frankfurt.
