Film about Bolsonaro threatens Flávio's candidacy, says Financial Times

A report from the British newspaper Financial Times published this Monday (25) states that the candidacy for the Presidency of senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) is threatened by the biographical film of his father, former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), "Darkhorse" (underdog, in Portuguese).

According to the newspaper, the film turned into a "comedy of errors" after the news agency Intercept Brasil released audio in which Flávio appears asking for money from Daniel Vorcaro, former owner of Banco Master, accused of a billion-dollar financial fraud scheme.

"The crisis has raised doubts about [Flávio] Bolsonaro's electoral viability. He was chosen as heir by his father, after the patriarch received a 27-year sentence in September for planning a coup to stay in power after his defeat to Lula in the 2022 elections," says the outlet.

To the Financial Times, Steve Bannon, former White House strategist and former assistant to Donald Trump, stated that he intends to promote Dark Horse.

According to him, the film should be a "success" in the United States due to the popularity of actor Jim Caviezel in the conservative Make America Great Again movement. In the film, Caviezel will play Bolsonaro, who the newspaper classifies as still the leader of the Brazilian right. The actor starred in the films "The Passion of the Christ" and "The Count of Montecristo".

Bannon also stated that a film with a "big Hollywood star in the cast" is better than "30-second TV commercials", in reference to election advertisements.

The report also mentions Flávio's meeting with Trump, scheduled for Tuesday (26). The senator left for the United States on Sunday (24) at the invitation of the White House.

Flávio Bolsonaro's candidacy
Jair Bolsonaro's eldest son, Flávio Bolsonaro had his pre-candidacy made official in December 2025. He was chosen by the former head of the Executive after he was sentenced to 27 years for participating in a coup d'état plan to stay in power.

Since then, Flávio's name had been rising in voting intention polls, reaching a tie with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

However, this month, information came to light that the senator had asked for money from banker Daniel Vorcaro to make his father's biographical film, "Darkhorse". The expression in English is used to refer to a competitor who has little chance of winning, and who, therefore, may surprise - in allusion to Bolsonaro's victory in the 2018 elections.

Report published by Intercept Brasil states that Flávio negotiated a transfer of R$134 million directly with Vorcaro. The senator, however, said he was not aware of the financial fraud involving the businessman's bank, Master.

A week later, information came to light that Flávio met with Vorcaro at his home, after the banker was arrested and the Master case became public. The pre-candidate says that the meeting would be to put a "final point" in the negotiation.
