Ethanol prices fall in 20 states and rise in 4, says ANP

The average prices of hydrated ethanol fell in 20 states, rose in 4 and in the Federal District (DF) and remained stable in 2 last week. The data is from ANP (National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels), compiled by AE-Taxas.

At stations surveyed by ANP across the country, the average price of ethanol fell 2.51%, to R$4.27 per liter. In São Paulo, the main producing and consuming state with the most evaluated stations, the price fell 1.97%, to R$ 3.99 per liter. The only percentage increases in the week were recorded in Acre (0.75%), to R$5.35 per liter; in Alagoas (3.13%), to R$ 5.27 per liter; in the Federal District (0.68%), to R$4.43 per liter; in Piauí (0.60%), for R$ 4.99 per liter; and in Rondônia (0.18%), for R$ 5.65 per liter.

The minimum price recorded this week for ethanol at a gas station was R$2.98 per liter, in São Paulo. The highest price, of R$6.59, was observed in Pernambuco. The lowest average state price, R$3.99, was recorded in São Paulo, while the highest average price was recorded in Amapá, R$5.84 per liter.

Competitiveness

Ethanol was more competitive compared to gasoline in only seven states and the Federal District last week. On average at the stations surveyed in the country, ethanol had a parity of 64.50% compared to gasoline, therefore favorable in comparison with the petroleum derivative.

The parity was 68.27% in Bahia, 66.23% in Goiás, 61.76% in Mato Grosso, 64.26% in Mato Grosso do Sul, 68.40% in Minas Gerais, 65.58% in Paraná, 61.67% in São Paulo and 68.15% in the Federal District.

Sector executives note that ethanol can be competitive even with parity greater than 70%, depending on the vehicle in which the biofuel is used.
