Police arrest suspect of operating finances and laundering R$5 million for TCP

The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro arrested, this Sunday (24), Luan Vitor França de Medeiros, identified by investigations as a financial operator of the criminal faction TCP (Terceiro Comando Puro), operating in Complexo da Maré, in the North Zone of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

The action was carried out by the DRE (Narcotics Enforcement Office) to comply with legal measures related to an investigation that investigates suspicions of drug trafficking, association for drug trafficking, money laundering, illegal exploitation of gambling and induction into speculation.

According to the corporation, Luan had used social networks with great reach to promote clandestine betting and gambling platforms not authorized by regulatory bodies.

Also according to investigators, the suspect would play a strategic role within the financial structure of the criminal organization, acting in the circulation and concealment of illicit resources. The Civil Police states that the exposure on social media and the constant publicity on the platforms sought to give the appearance of regular economic activity.

The investigations indicate that, in approximately one year, there was financial movement close to R$5 million. For investigators, the amounts may be related to money laundering from drug trafficking activities.

The investigation also identified signs of proximity between the person being investigated and members of the TCP who operate in the Complexo da Maré, including people associated with the armed group of the faction.

According to the Civil Police, during the investigative work, publications were found on social media showing large amounts of cash, content associated with so-called narcoculture and the recurring dissemination of links to illegal betting platforms.

The investigators also claim to have identified a standard of living considered incompatible with known legal income and frequent records of the person being investigated alongside members of organized crime and public figures.

The operation aimed to seize cell phones, electronic equipment, documents, financial records, digital media and other elements that could help in deepening the investigations and identifying the financial structure allegedly used to move the resources.

In a statement, the Civil Police stated that criminal organizations have been expanding forms of activity beyond drug trafficking, incorporating illicit economic activities and using social networks as a tool for financial capture, money laundering and promotion of narcoculture.

According to the corporation, Luan also used to publish content boasting a luxurious routine and paid tribute to drug dealer Thiago da Silva Folly, known as TH da Maré, who died in May last year.
