Michael Jackson gains versions of cheesy funk and forró after the success of his biopic
Brazil rediscovered Michael Jackson.
More than 5 million people in Brazil have already watched "Michael", a biopic that follows the King of Pop from his childhood to the beginning of his adult life, towards the end of the 1980s.
On social media, classics such as "Human Nature" (1983) and "They Don't Care About Us" (1996) gained versions with very Brazilian guises.
The reinterpretations mix Gary's legacy, in Indiana (city in the United States where the singer was born), with the "sauce" of the Northeast and Brazilian outskirts. Below, see the reinterpretations that the singer's classics received:
Forró to dance 'coladinho'
One of the main surprises of this wave was the (to say the least) unusual meeting between the band Calcinha Preta and Rodrigo Teaser, considered the official cover of Michael Jackson in Brazil.
Together, they released a forro version of "Human Nature".
In the original ballad, the American star talks about human nature, loneliness, the desire for connection...
In the version of Calcinha Preta, titled "Bom Demais", the famous "why, why" of the 1983 chorus was adapted into Portuguese like this:
Having you with me is too good, more
My love is you, that's too much, more
Having you with me is too good, more
I fall in love with you
The track mixes the characteristic beats of romantic forró with the melodic vocals of the original classic, including, of course, Michael Jackson's characteristic "auuu" when the cover takes the stage.

The historic "They Don't Care About Us" (1996), whose original clip already has strong links with Brazil due to the recording as Olodum no Pelourinho, gained its version of "Passinho do Jamal".
The video was created and recorded by Jamal himself, creator of the famous choreography that is a rage on social media.
Affectionately named "Michael Jackson's step", the dance mixes the protest beat of American music with the synchrony and rhythm of Pernambuco's urban steps.

Another classic that also gained a completely new look was "Billie Jean", a megahit from 1983: it became piseiro.
The "nordestinhada" transformation went viral on the networks after a post by Orlandinho, who calls himself the "King of Piseiro".
The content creator from Pernambuco, who has more than 3.3 million followers on social networks, revealed that he left the cinema inspired after watching "Michael" (whom he affectionately called "Michel Antônio Jacson")
In the video, the traditional Moonwalk was completely adapted to the swagger and sway of the piseiro. "But this Michael lacked plumb", joked a follower in the comments.

"Michael" became the biopic with the best debut in the history of cinema. In its first weekend, the film that tells part of the story of the King of Pop grossed US$ 217 million globally (R$ 1 billion, at current prices). The information is from the "BBC".
The work surpassed "Oppenheimer", a film by Christopher Nolan that won seven categories at the 2024 Oscars.

The film, which tells the story of the physicist known for inventing the atomic bomb, grossed US$ 180 million (R$ 894 million).
The top 3 biopics with the highest grossing openings is closed with "Bohemian Rhapsody", which tells the story of Freddie Mercury, leader of the band Queen. The film grossed US$124 million.
